Dr. Caitlin Szurek, DVM, CPEV

My name is Dr. Cate Szurek and I am a veterinarian based in Brighton, Michigan. After graduating from Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, I worked as a general practice veterinarian for 7 years. During these years, I was strongly drawn to helping my clients through the most difficult but meaningful time of their pets' lives — those moments when they sadly had to say goodbye. The connection I made with my clients during these moments guided me to devote my life's practice to pet hospice and peaceful end-of-life care.

I believe that the most important time in our pets' lives are their final moments with us. Maintaining comfort and relieving stress during this time can be difficult, and unfortunately may not be possible in a clinic setting. Having gone through the devastating loss of pets myself, I know how scary and stressful this time can be. This is why I chose to open Peaceful Promise, a mobile pet euthanasia practice, so that I can support my patients and clients from the comfort of their own homes.

I was born in South Africa and moved to the US when I was a teenager. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and pets. I share my home with my loving husband, our beautiful one-year-old daughter, and our crazy cat named Margaret Catwood. I enjoy yoga, hiking, exploring small towns, and being an active part of my local community.

I am an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, and the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care. I am a Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Veterinarian (CPEV), and have completed advanced continued education by the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy. I am also certified in Low Stress Handling for cats and dogs.
